Open Adoption Networking

Many adoptive parents have successfully found birthparents through networking. At first this can seem overwhelming to adoptive families. However, we have put together a list of some things that you can do that are easy and inexpensive.

Create an Adoption Website

This is the first thing that I recommend you do. This will serve as a tool for the other networking options. If you have the time and skills, you may do this yourself. Otherwise, Luv4adoption.com can create your website for you. You may either email or snail mail your adoption letter and pictures to me. You may either mail a cashier's check or use PayPal to make your payment. Here are detailed instructions to have an adoption website created. If you create your own website, here are some tips:

Size your graphics so they load fast.

Use backgrounds and colors that make your site easy to read.

Make sure your pictures are close-up and clear.

Be careful of free hosting companies. If your site loads very slowly, this may be the reason.

Use media and graphics wisely. While it may look and sound cool, if it takes forever to load, visitors may leave before even seeing it.

Link to Adoption Websites

Once you have an adoption website, link to luv4adoption.com. Here are detailed instructions to add your link. You may also decide to link to other sites to increase your exposure.

Adoption Cards

Create adoption cards (similar to business cards). These should state that you are looking to adopt, include your name, phone number, website, and email address. You may also include a picture or other information. You may do these yourself on the computer or have them printed professionally. If you want help with this, please contact me.

Carry these cards with you at all time and give them to everyone you meet. Also, post them on bulletin boards at gas stations, grocery stores, laundry mats, colleges, churches, etc. Encourage your family and friends to distribute them as well.

Adoption Letter

Write a letter to familiy, friends, acquaintances, etc. telling them about your adoption plans. Email this to everyone that has email. Make sure you include your website, email, and phone number. Encourage them to forward this to their family and friends.

For those without email, send them a hard copy of your letter and include your adoption cards. You may also include a hard copy of your "Dear Birthparent letter".

Make sure you give this to your doctor, minister or priest, etcjo. If you want help with this, please contact me.

If it is legal in your state, you may wish to place an ad in the newspaper.
